Chemical Expert Fine Chemicals
We are looking for a passionate Chemical Expert to take a leading role in advancing the development and purification of sustainable fine chemicals. This position offers the opportunity to drive innovation, scale processes from lab to industrial levels, and contribute to the creation of next-generation materials that support a truly circular economy.
Location: Leipzig, Germany (onsite)
Key Responsibilities
Lead an R&D and production team to develop a scalable purification process for innovative, sustainable building blocks used as feedstock for novel polyester-based plastics.
Develop a strategy to progress toward a 100+ kt/a world-scale process, defining clear steps to move from kg-lab scale to t-pilot scale and ultimately reach commercial kt-scale production.
Validate strategies and ideas through laboratory-scale experiments to evaluate technologies.
Manage development projects with external service providers to create end-to-end processes for purifying complex product mixtures into pure fine chemicals.
Define and align input and output streams (chemical and physical properties) and establish product specifications.
Collaborate closely with management as well as upstream and downstream R&D teams.
Drive innovation by co-developing and implementing next-generation purification technologies.
Prepare technical reports and patent applications.
Ensure SHEQ and sustainability standards are upheld in all laboratory, pilot, and production activities, including knowledge of REACH/CLP, LCA, recycling, and end-of-life strategies.
Your Profile
Degree in Organic Chemistry, Technical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline (PhD preferred).
Several years of industrial experience in the synthesis and/or purification of fine chemicals.
Proven track record in project management and successful implementation of processes or syntheses.
Ideally familiar with cGMP, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality systems.
Proficiency in analytical instrumentation and data interpretation.
Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken); German is a plus.
Hands-on mindset, structured way of working, and the ability to collaborate seamlessly across disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
